GBL All-Star Team Selections Completed - Waltham Earns 4 Spots
| The 2007 GBL All Star Team was selected tonight with
four players from the GBL Champion Waltham Team earning spots. Team co-captain
Samantha Lupinski earned a first team spot for the third year in a row. Fellow
middle hitter, Fordeline Thermitus, joins Lupinski on the GBL All Star first team. Libero,
four year varsity player and team co-captain - Amanda Micco earned a spot on the
GBL All Star second team. Senior setter Julia Paltseva also was selected to the
second team of GBL All Stars. We congratulate these four players on this
special achievement. | |

Waltham Mayor Honors 2007 Varsity Teams' Greater Boston League Championship
| The Mayor of
Waltham, Jeannette McCarthy, honored the 2007 varsity girls volleyball team for
its tremendous season and 14-0 Greater Boston League Championship title at a special
meeting in her office Tuesday, November 13th just prior to the City Council Meeting. Many
varsity players, along with family and friends, attended the special event. The
Mayor presented each player with a certificate from the city. The City Council
will issue a special proclamation recognizing the team's achievement and honor
the players at their meeting the week after Thanksgiving. The city council
meets at Waltham City Hall in the council chambers. Parking is available around
Waltham Common and in the municipal parking garage off of Lexington Street. We
hope to see you all at this event. |

Waltham Volleyball Falls in 1/4 Final to Quincy
| The Waltham High School varsity volleyball team's amazing
2007 season came to an end at the hands of Quincy High School in the 1/4 Finals
of the the MIAA Central East Division 1 Sectional Tournament. The #5 seeded
Hawks fell on the road to the #4 seeded Presidents in three straight games by
scores of 25-10, 25-14, 25-12. The LadyHawks started off a bit sluggish
in game 1 but provided strong effort and produced numerous thrilling rallies late
in that game and throughout games 2 and 3. In the end, Quincy overpowered Waltham
and closed out the Hawks' season. We congratulate all the players for a
tremendous season and for earning the Greater Boston League Championship. Complete

Waltham Volleyball Earns First Round Bye and #5 Seed in Central East Division
1 Sectional Tournament Hawks Travel to Play #4 Quincy on Monday, November
5th in 1/4 Final Matchup
| The Waltham High School varsity volleyball earned the number
5 seed in a field of 10 strong teams in the MIAA Central East Division 1 Sectional
Tournament. The ranking gives Waltham a first round bye but places the Hawks
against a tough Quincy squad who, with an identical record of 17-3, earned the
number 4 seed. Therefore, Waltham will travel to Quincy for a 7:00 pm game on
Monday, November 5th. Complete details of the 2007 Central East Division

Waltham Volleyball Finishes Undefeated GBL Championship Season with Win Over
Revere |
The Waltham High School varsity volleyball team finished its 2007 GBL championship
season with a win at Revere and runs its final league record to a perfect 14-0.
The Hawks end the regular season with an overall record of 17-3. Waltham
swept Revere 3-0 by scores of 25-11, 25-17, 25-4. The JV team also beat
Revere 2-0 and ends their season with an overall record of 12-8, and a GBL record
of 10-4. |

Waltham Claims '07 GBL Crown by Beating Malden in 13th Straight League Victory
| The Waltham
High School varsity volleyball team honored its seniors during their last regular
season home game by capturing the 2007 Greater Boston League title. The
Hawks beat the Malden Golden Tornadoes 3-0 by scores of 25-7, 25-20, 25-12 to
earn their 13th straight league victory. Waltham secures the GBL crown
since they have only one league match left and maintain a two game lead over the
nearest rival - Cambridge R&L. This is the first Waltham Volleyball
GBL title since the 1993 team earned a Co-Championship with Cambridge. It is the
school's first outright volleyball league championship since the 1978 team earned
a Suburban League title. The entire roster saw action in this historic match
with Samantha Lupinski leading Hawk attackers with 9 kills. Fordeline Thermitus
posted 5 kills and Jessica Lundberg added 4 kills. Cathy Ordile led the
serve attack with 7 aces, 2 serves with no return and powered an 11 point run
in game 1. Julia Paltseva matched Ordile's 7 aces and added a serve with no return
while she powered a 9 point run in game 3. The JV team also beat Malden
to move to 11-8 overall, 9-4 GBL. |

Waltham Volleyball Holds Annual Fundraiser at Unos on Bear Hill Road
| The Waltham
High School volleyball teams will hold their annual fundraiser at Uno's Bar and
Grill on Bear Hill Road in Waltham this Thursday, October 25, 2007. All day long
you can dine in, order out or even purchase gift cards and a portion of the day's
sales will be donated to the booster club. Simply see a team player for
fundraising coupon and present it when ordering or paying for your meal. You can
also mention that your are there to support our team if you are unable to get
a fundraising coupon. This is a critical portion of our team's fundraising
efforts which pay for the Varsity, JV and JV-B team banquet following the conclusion
of the varsity team's season (including tourmament play). In the past years,
this Uno event has brought several hundred dollars into our organization. Please
come out and support our teams and enjoy some terrific food while supporting a
great local business. It is a true win-win for everyone. |

Waltham Volleyball Falls to Newton South
| The Waltham High School varsity volleyball team dropped
its rematch with Dual County League power Newton South Tuesday afternoon as the
Lions swept the Hawks in three straight games 21-25, 14-25, 11-25. The season
split with the Lions moves Waltham's overall record to 15-3 while its GBL record
remains 12-0. The Hawks never got in rhythm and failed to successfully set
up their offense throughout much of the match. The Lions, with several key players
back in their line up, played strong all day, especially in the last two games
where they made few errors. The JV and JV-B teams also lost to Newton South
by scores of 2-0. JV drops to 10-8 overall and stays 8-4 in the GBL. |

Waltham Volleyball Returns Home and Tops Somerville in GBL Contest
| The Waltham
High School varsity volleyball team served up a strong match as they rolled past
Somerville on Friday 25-5, 25-12 and 25-9 for a 3 game sweep of the match. The
win assures Waltham at least a co-share of the GBL title and improves the Hawks
to 15-2 on the season and 12-0 in the GBL. The Hawks fired 16 kills on the
day and 31 points off serve plus 2 blocks. Sam Lupinski led the hitters with 6
kills, Jess Lundberg added 4, Fordeline Thermitus had 2, while setter Keisha Gilles
also tipped in 2 points. Senior Kirby Hunter had an incredible day serving
with 7 points that included 5 aces. Junior Melanie McCluskey also had 5 straight
aces in game 1. Senior setter Julia Platseva had 4 aces in a 9 point Hawk run
that started game 1. Sophmore setter Rachel Wheaton saw her first varsity
action in game 3 where she served 4 aces and started off the game with a 7 point
Hawk run. She also had several assists in the game. The JV team also beat
Somerville in a 2-0 match. JV improves its record to 10-7 overall and 8-4 in GBL
matches. |

Waltham Volleyball Beats Everett on the Road and Varsity Remains Perfect in
the GBL With an 11-0 Record
| The Waltham High School varsity volleyball team travelled
to Everett and swept the Crimson Tide 3-0 posting game scores of 25-15, 25-12
and 25-19. The Hawks improve to 14-2 overall and remain undefeated in the GBL
at 11-0 with three league games remaining on one non-league contest. Varsity
pilled on 36 kills in the match and 20 points from serve, plus 1 block. Senior
middle hitters Samantha Lupinski and Fordeline Thermitus led the Hawk attack with
9 kills each. Lupinski also served up 3 points and had 1 block. Senior Cathy
Ordile had a tremendous match adding 6 kills and 2 aces while also providing key
defensive digs and passes that saved the Hawks on several occasions. Senior Libero
Amanda Micco also played strong defense and served up a storm mustering 7 points
from the service line. Junior Melanie McCluskey joined the top scorers with
4 kills and 2 service points including great serves during a key 7-point Hawk
run in game 2. The JV team also beat Everett in a 2-0 match. JV climbs to
9-7 overall and 7-4 in GBL matches. |

Waltham Wins Second Straight with Victory Over Visiting Non-league Opponent

The Waltham High School varsity volleyball team improved to 13-2 overall with
a non-league victory over visiting Bishop Fenwick on Monday. The Hawks won the
match 3-1 by scores 25-13, 25-14, 17-25, 25-15. The JV team also beat Bishop
Fenwick with a 2-0 victory. That win places JV back over the .500 mark with an
8-7 overall record. |

Waltham Hawks Return to Winning Ways with GBL Victory Over Visiting Medford
| The Waltham
High School varsity volleyball team bounced back from its loss to Arlington Catholic
yesterday with a win over GBL foe Medford Friday afternoon. The Hawks won the
match outscoring the Mustangs 25-13, 25-17, 25-14. The win places Waltham
at 12-2 overall and 10-0 in the GBL. The JV team also topped Medford with
a 2-0 victory. That win places JV back at the .500 mark with a 7-7 overall record. Meanwhile,
JV-B took on Arlington Catholic and posted an impressive 2-0 victory over the
Cougars. Members of all three volleyball teams will joined their fellow
WHS Fall Sport athletes in the community service project - Clean Waltham Day -
Saturday October 13th. Nearly 30 members of the volleyball program helped push
this year's number of participants to 180 student-athletes and coaches. |

American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has selected Waltham Volleyball
varsity-head coach Michael Murphy as a finalist in its 2005-2006 Grant Burger
Media Awards Contest.

awareness of the sport of volleyball nationwide.
The AVCA expanded the
media award’s scope in 2004-05 by having a finalist in four different categories:
broadcast, print, web and sports information/athletic communications. |
