About
Our Coaching Team Varsity Coach Michael
Murphy leads the Waltham High School Girls' Volleyball coaching staff and enters
his fourth season with the Hawks. This year, two new coaches will join Murphy
on the Waltham courts. Carolyn Henjes will take over the Junior Varsity program
while Valerie Librizzi takes over the JV-B team. Due to work commitments,
Karen Murphy moves from her previous position of JV Coach (3 years at WHS) to
that of a volunteer assistant. Stephanie DeAlmedia also returns to the sidelines
as another volunteer assistant. We are also excited to welcome Chuck Smerlas to
the staff as a volunteer assistant for the 2007 season. Together this team
brings more than 50 years of volleyball coaching and playing experience to the
court.

Philosophy The coaching staff at Waltham
High School follows the guides of: -
The Waltham
School System -
The Massachusetts Interscholastic
Athletic Association (MIAA) -
The National Federation
of State High School Associations (NFHS) - Coaches Association -
The Massachusetts Girls Volleyball Coaches Association (MGVCA) -
The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) This
means our overall emphasis is on athlete development - helping each person on
our team grow as a player on the court, a student in the classroom and a leader
in the community. We aim to instill a passion for the game of volleyball
in each player - a true love of the game. Through our program, we strive to teach
each player the correct skills, tactics and techniques of competitive volleyball.
On a larger scale, we emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship,
hard work and commitment to the team. All of these values we stress, hopefully
impact the student-athletes on our teams and help them succeed in the rest of
their lives. With the varsity program, we do strive towards the ultimate
goal of placing our athletes in a position to win as many games as possible. At
the same time we attempt to teach each player to have fun while playing the game
and chasing that goal. |
