Program Overview and History for Waltham High School Girls Volleyball

The Waltham High School Girls Volleyball Team currently competes in Division 1 of the MIAA within the Greater Boston League.

The Hawks play 20 games during the regular fall season schedule, 6 of which are non-league contests.

The volleyball program enjoys the support of the Waltham High School Athletic Department and Public School system.

This activity is fully-funded by the school, with coaches, uniforms, equipment and transportation to away games provided at no cost to the students.

Increase Volleyball Skills: Our league and non-league opponents provide high-level competition for the girls all year long. These games along with our skilled coaching raises the level of performance for each athlete during the course of the season.

Learn Team Work: The Waltham High School Volleyball Teams emphasize team work, good sportsmanship, respect and hard work.

Have Fun: In addition to enjoying the sport of volleyball, players also make new friends and travel around the Greater Boston area to compete with other teams

A Tradition of Excellence

Through the years, the girls volleyball program at Waltham High School has seen some tremendous success.

During the 1970's, the Lady Hawks captured five state titles. The coach of that team, Helen Castros, has been inducted into the Massachusetts Girls Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

North Sectional Champions

1978

Waltham followed up its state championship accomplishments with a league title and sectional title in 1978.

The team resurged in the early 90s capturing a Greater Boston League title (co-champions with Cambridge) in 1993.

In the new millennium, Waltham has often reached the state tournament and in 2006 made it to the Central East Sectional Quarter Finals.

The coaching staff at Waltham High School hopes to assist all players in achieving their best on the court and in moving up to play at colleges in Division 1, 2 and 3 or at the community college level.
